«I take photographs to organise my thoughts – and perhaps also myself. Images arise in the chaotic process of life, from places and circumstances. Their physical and digital storage, as negatives, files or produced works, remains an open question.
In this sense, photography is a paradoxical medium: it serves to organise and at the same time constantly generates new layers of material – new images, new contexts, new disorder. With each photograph, the archive grows and with it the task of establishing relationships between images, rethinking and re-evaluating them.
Over the years, works emerge that continuously engage with their respective contexts. Images relate to one another, shift and become readable in new ways again and again. Photography appears less as a finished work and more as a space for thought – as an open archive.
The exhibition brings together works from seventeen years. Some were originally created as series, but are deliberately shown here without divisions or chronological order. Different tools, techniques and formats testify to an ongoing search – and perhaps also to the fact that things can never be completely ordered, but rather keep thinking in motion.»
Sandro Livio Straube
born in Zurich in 1992, Swiss architect and photographer. Straube makes photographs for other architects and regularly takes part himself in architectural competitions. He is involved in exhibitions that take an artistic approach to architecture through models, sculptures, drawings, and photographs. Straube moves effortlessly between different disciplines, creating fluid transitions between artistic photography and architecture. In addition to commissioned work, he pursues independent photographic projects – in particular the long-term series Berge bleichen – and shows his work internationally at galleries, museums, and photography fairs. He lives and works in Vella and Lumbrein in the Swiss canton of Grisons.
