Ruth Maria Obrist’s works capture the viewer—amongst other things— due to their experiential and contradictory nature. For example, the viewer may perceive the artistic works simultaneously as light and heavy, or rigorous and playful. Obrist’s works, with their clear shapes and forms, can be situated at the roots of Minimal Art movement. Oftentimes, the Baden-local artist’s images and sculptures refer to Donald Judd’s artisvc language. In other words, the works can be seen as forms of three-dimensional creation. Nevertheless, Obrist goes one step further: her work underlays a conceptual process of creation. The results manifest themselves as materialization of artistic statements or of current-day issues and concerns.
