Ausblicke & Einblicke (Outlooks & Insights)
The world as we know it today was a different one yesterday and we can only guess what it will look like tomorrow. We are in the middle of this world, are part of it as individuals and as a society and thus participate in its development and change. We are expanding, needing more and more land, resources and energy, polluting the environment and influencing the climate as if there were no tomorrow. Today we all feel the effects of this behavior the longer the more. What is changing in the world and in our own country does not stop at our doorstep. Fortunately, it is not only the bad developments, but also the positive ones.
What remains is the longing for peace, tranquility, serenity and intact nature. This is what can be read in the pictures of the photographer Stefano Righetti in the form of views of landscapes, situations and objects. The views are reflections on a beautiful, peaceful and quiet world. The contrast to the other ugly world is deliberately omitted. At the same time, they are glimpses of the photographer's personal perception and photographic realization of light and forms, impressions and feelings, moods and emotions that presented themselves to him at the moment of taking the pictures. This arc of tension has given the exhibition its title.
Only black and white photographs are shown. Righetti justifies it with the fact that this kind comes closest to his photographic eye, his feeling and his picture language. The images show vast landscapes where sky meets earth and water, sometimes so subtly that the horizons merge into one another. The selection of images also includes everyday scenes and mountain landscapes, as well as photos of buildings, walls and strange objects. The photos were taken on trips and mountain tours between 2016 and 2021 in Scandinavian countries, Portugal and the Alps. The photos are sometimes calm and sometimes dramatic, but always harmoniously composed and yet charged with tension. And that is quite intentional, because as I said, they are views of our world as the photographer sees it today. And how do other viewers of the pictures see and feel?
Righetti says of himself: "I do not have the claim or the intention to convey something very specific with it. Why also. As with a piece of music or a painted picture one is to feel addressed or not and to interpret it in such a way, as he or she feels it thereby straight". In this sense, a visit to the exhibition can be an exciting examination of one's own outlook and insight into today's world.
